1sang Litrong Liwanag

From dark to light. From revelry to relevance. From vision to reality.

Last March 30, 2011, we attended 1sang Litrong Liwanag, an event by MyShelter Foundation, an organization spearheading appropriate technologies and sustainable developments here in the Philippines. MyShelter and Republiq Club, one of the newest and hippest party destinations here in Manila, came together to bring an event that aims to bring light to thousands of communities here in the country.

Together with Fashion Designers Alliance (FADAL) Manila and the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP), the two are launching the hottest, most happening party for a cause this summer: Chiaroscuro.

Taking its name from an art terminology, which refers to the interplay of dark and light, Chiaroscuro was born out of a need to generate awareness to MyShelter’s campaign, Isang Litrong Liwanag, among a larger public. The said campaign envisions to take people out of darkness by bringing light to homes which do not have access to electricity, reduce high electric energy dependence among poor communities, as well as cut incidence of illegal wire-tapping.

My Shelter Foundation’s Illac Diaz, who has launched noteworthy ventures such as the Seafarer's Dormitory at Pier One, the acclaimed Bottle School Project, and the global architectural design contest Design Against the Elements, is passionately at the forefront of the “Isang Litrong Liwanag” campaign, which makes use of solar bottle bulbs.
